The Level 1 Diploma in Business and Travel Skills will introduce you to both Business and Travel & Tourism at a basic level and introduce the principles of each area.

The course is delivered by staff that have a wide range of knowledge and experience in the sectors. There is a strong emphasis on employability skills relevant to the business, travel and retail sectors.

What will I do?

During the Level 1 Diploma in Business and Travel Skills, you will develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life.

The diploma is made up of a number of units and you will study a wide range of subjects which could include:

  • Business and Travel administration
  • Preparing for work
  • Customer service skills
  • Teamwork communication skills
  • Understanding businesses
  • Understanding retail and the selling process

The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, individual learning plans, external visits, events and speakers. You will also undertake a period of work experience which will be extremely useful in preparing you for your next steps in either employment or education. You will also take part in team projects.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grades E or above (new GCSE grade 2 or above) or equivalent (to include English or maths), or any one of the following, an Entry 3 qualification, a Certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, an ESOL Entry L3 qualification.

If you are unable to meet these entry requirements enrolment onto our Pathways to Progress provision will prepare you for progression into the curriculum area of your choice, either in-year (depending on progress made in the first six weeks) or the following September. We also offer full time ESOL courses which give you opportunity to develop your language skills further prior to progression into the curriculum area of your choice the following September.

The Diploma in Business and Travel Skills will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for a minimum of four days a week.

The Diploma in Business and Travel Skills is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1200
If full course payment is made on the first day of the course a discount may apply.

You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, which include observation, written assessments, discussions with tutor and work books.

Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Business and Travel Skills along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 2 course In Business or Travel, Apprenticeship or employment in a business, administration or retail role. Successful learners from previous cohorts have gone on to develop careers in roles such as administrative assistants, receptionists and retail assistants.

Additional costs include an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper.
