The Level 5 Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) is delivered over two years, you will need 100 hours on ‘in-service’ teaching and study 5 mandatory credit modules.

As the Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) is a professional programme, personal development planning is threaded throughout. You will be required to reflect on your own personal professional development and practice through work-based learning and assessment, creating your own e-portfolio. This e-portfolio is not only used as a vehicle for reflection and self-evaluation, but it encourages you to develop digital skills and a digital profile.

The entry requirements for the Level 5 Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) is a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, including GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (Old grade C).
You will also be required to evidence 50 hours of full teaching per year. This needs to be within paid employment and not in a voluntary role.
The Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) will take you two years to complete.
You will attend Boston College for 3 hours per week, Tuesday 5pm - 8pm, for a total of 35 weeks a year.
The Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) will cost you £3200, you may be eligible to apply to Student Finance England to cover you Tuition fees.

The majority of trainees completing programmes are successfully appointed to teaching posts across the sector. Many trainees move on quickly to become course leaders/managers of the subject area.
Upon completion of the Certificate in Education you can progress onto the PGCE from which you will be eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status via the Society for Education and Training.
