The Level 2 Sport OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma is designed to give you a comprehensive experience of the skills required to work within the sports industry. In addition to this qualification, you will also study the Fitness and Physical Activity YMCA Award Level 1 Assistant Gym Instructor qualification.

Level 2 Sport OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma contains practical units to improve your coaching and instructing ability whilst improving on your confidence and professionalism. Alongside the physical aspects, the course also teaches strong foundations to help you understand the industry and the academic and employer related skills that will be required.

You will study subjects in a practical way where possible, however even within practical subjects there will be an element of theory and portfolio building work to be completed.

What will I do?

You will study a variety of units, which may include:

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Injury in Sport
  • Psychology for Sports Performance

The YMCA Award Level 1 will qualify you to work as a gym instructor whilst under supervision.

All subject content will be available via the college Moodle website to assist you when working away from the classroom.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

Within your qualification students will be expected to a complete a minimum of 30 hours meaningful work experience. The inclusion of this within a student’s study programme will not only provide valuable insights into industry, but also expose students to experiences that can be used to support their CV. Whilst staff will support with this as much as possible, it is hoped that students will find their own opportunities.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Sport OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma are four GCSEs grades 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D or above) (or equivalent), ora Merit at BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport.

The Sport OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend Boston Colleges Peter Paine Performance Centre in Boston for four-five days a week.

You will need a minimum of 93% attendance throughout the year, in order for you to successfully complete the qualification.

The Sport OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

All qualifications will be assessed to a pass standard and will be mainly through observations of practical performance and by the submission of a portfolio of evidence.

Successfully achieving a Merit on this course can lead onto the Sport and Exercise Sciences Subsidiary and Diploma Level 3 course.

Successfully achieving a Distinction can lead on to the Sport and Exercise Sciences 90 Credit and Extended Diploma Level 3 course.

You will also be able to gain employment within the sports industry.

Additional costs include the purchase of suitable kit is required.

Throughout the year a variety of educational and fun trips and visits will be available for a small cost.
