The Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma will be studied over two years. During your first year you will enrol on and study the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science Foundation Diploma. This is a standalone one-year qualification. Upon successful completion of the first year, you can then progress and enrol to study the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A levels.
This course is designed for students who wish to gain a sports qualification to further their career aspirations in the sports and leisure industries, or prepare them for further training or higher education.
A range of units will be studied over the year, which will cover all aspects of Sport and Exercise including: practical, anatomy, physiology, psychology, training, coaching, injuries, and biomechanics.
Alongside our fantastic education pathway, learners will also be part of the Boston College Academy of Sport which will allow participation in regional and local competition in many sports. This year, see’ s Learners accessing our provision, being able to take part in the ‘prestigious’ Association of Colleges Football league. Students will have training built into their timetable, receive training from a Licensed UEFA B football coach and build on their personal technical , tactical and physical attributes. You will study in our Sports Centre, The Peter Paine Performance Centre, which is open to the public outside of lessons providing you with a real working environment to study in that's dedicated to ensuring you have all the skills you need for working in the industry.
During the Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma, you will study the following units:
We have a variety of different teaching facilities including classrooms, human physiology and science laboratories, a sports field and sports hall. The College also has links with a variety of local sporting organisations.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including English (or equivalent).
You can also enter the course with a Merit profile at First Diploma in a related subject.
The Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma will take you two years to complete. You will study at our Peter Paine Performance Centre in Boston for four-five days a week.
You will need a minimum of 93% attendance throughout the year, in order for you to successfully complete the qualification.
The Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
For those aged 19+, this course will cost: £7395.
Year 1, Foundation Diploma Level 3 - £2882.
Year 2, Extended Diploma Level 3 - £4513.

If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £27,295 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Successful completion of the course should enhance your prospects of finding a career within the health, leisure or sports industries.
It will also enable you to progress to university level courses including the Sport and Exercise HND/HNC available at College.
Other students have previously progressed to university to study PE/Sports Teaching and Sports Exercise Science or Coaching.
There may be an opportunity to complete an Industry Placement alongside your main Level 3 course.
Industry placements give you the chance to put into practice what you have learned and you will have the opportunity to spend an average of 50 days working for an employer, in a role directly relevant to your course.
With an Industry Placement you will gain technical skills, be prepared for the world of work, and gain connections in order to secure a job after your course.
