Our Level 2 (Intermediate) Instructing Exercise and Fitness Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of intermediate instructing exercise and fitness techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.
This Level 2 (Intermediate) Instructing Exercise and Fitness Apprenticeship allows you to gain industry standard skills within a health and fitness setting, in the role of a gym instructor.
This is an internationally recognised framework and can lead onto the Level 3 Personal Trainer Advanced Apprenticeship. Delivery is one day at week at Peter Paine Performance Centre and four days with an employer.
During your time as an Apprentice, you will develop the skills required to be a successful gym instructor for individual and group exercise.
You will visit College once a week to develop your exercise and fitness knowledge and take part in practical sessions to improve technique and delivery skills.
The remaining time will be spent with your employer where you will follow your NVQ, tracked by an assessor, and complete day-to-day tasks related to the post along with employer rights and responsibilities modules to further understand your role.
The course will enhance your communication, organisational and independent thinking skills within an employment setting. Wider skills are also embedded such as safeguarding, reflection, professional standards and numeracy and literacy if required.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The entry qualifications for the Level 2 (Intermediate) Instructing Exercise and Fitness Apprenticeship are two GCSEs at grades D or above (New GCSE grade 3 or above) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
You will also need to be in a relevant job role.
As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.70 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.
In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:
Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.20 per hour.
18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £5.90 per hour.
21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.38 per hour.
25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £7.83 per hour.
