The Level 2 Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate is the industry benchmark of gym instruction and deems an instructor safe to train and develop clients. The course will also look at how you may run your own business, when qualified, and prepare you for becoming a personal trainer.

The qualification is designed for students who wish to gain a fitness qualification to further their career aspirations in the fitness industry or prepare them for further training or education.

As well as a standalone qualification, this course is also offered to all sports students on the Sport and Exercise Science Diploma Level 3.

What will I do?

During the Level 2 Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate you will cover a range of modules including health and safety, supporting clients, anatomy and physiology, planning and instructing gym exercise.

Teaching and learning will take place in both gym and classrooms.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate.

The Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate will take you one year to complete. You will attend Boston Colleges Peter Paine Performance Centre in Boston for three hours, one day a week.

The Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £476.

The Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate is assessed through workbooks, practical individual work, assessment of a gym induction, two examinations and online assessments.

Successful completion of the Level 2 Gym Based Exercise YMCA Certificate should enhance your prospects of finding a career within the fitness industry.
