The Level 2 Applied Science Diploma is suitable for those who are interested in science subjects including developing specialist laboratory, and work-related practical skills that are designed for a range of roles. This is course is also suitable for those who need an equivalent GCSE science qualification. You will be provide with the knowledge, understanding and skills that are needed to prepare you for employment.
This qualification also provides progression on to Level 3 Applied (Medical) Science.
During the Level 2 Applied Science Diploma, you will study a variety of units in biology, chemistry and physics including:
The College have three fully equipped laboratories which are used extensively and you will carry out regular laboratory practical sessions each week and develop laboratory skills which prepare you for progression.
You will be expected to complete work experience as part of the course outside of College hours.
A variety of trips and guest speaker will also be planned throughout the year.
If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.
Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.
The Applied Science Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for four days a week. There will also be an expectation of independent study.
You need to complete work experience outside of normal college hours. You will be expected to carry out independent study.
The Applied Science Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
