The Level 1 Plumbing Studies will provide you with an understanding of Plumbing, Electrical, Engineering, Heating, and Ventilation so you can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in the specialism of your choice.

You will study in our on-site workshop, which is built to resemble a realistic working environment to ensure you gain the skills you need to progress a career in the trade.

It is a stepping stone towards a career within the Plumbing industry and building related services.

What will I do?

You will study the following units:

  • Structure of the Construction Industry
  • Fundamental Safe Working Practices
  • Environmental and Sustainability Measures in Domestic Dwellings
  • Site Preparation for Working in the Construction Industry
  • Above Ground Drainage
  • Copper Pipework
  • Plastic Pressure Pipework
  • Low Carbon Steel
  • Installation, Repair and Maintenance of Plumbing Systems
  • Plumbing Science

During your Plumbing Studies you will visit to the Black Sluice Environmental and Pump stations to help you apply your knowledge from College into the working world.

In addition to your main course, you will also study:

  • Personal and Social Development, training that will prepare you for life outside college, and help you to find a job
  • Engage in Enterprise work experience and tutorial activities

You will have a Personal Tutor to help you on an individual basis to maximise your potential.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3 or below, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

Applicants must have basic literacy and numeracy skills. These skills are essential for success in any trade, as they enable individuals to read and understand technical instructions, calculate measurements and quantities, follow safety procedures and regulations, communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and supervisors, and solve problems and make decisions in a safe and efficient manner.

Vocational education programs typically provide literacy and numeracy support to students throughout their learning. This is delivered in a variety of ways, such as through embedded literacy and numeracy instruction and stand-alone literacy and numeracy courses.

In addition to receiving literacy and numeracy support throughout their learning, students in vocational education programs are also required to study these skills alongside their main qualification as part of their study program. This ensures that students develop the literacy and numeracy skills they need to be successful in their chosen trade.

The Plumbing Studies will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for up to four days a week.

The Plumbing Studies course is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

With assistance from your tutor you will build a portfolio of plumbing tasks. You will carry out assignments in the classroom and practical assessments in the workshop.

Functional Skills are assessed by exams.

Successful completion of the Plumbing Studies course could allow you to progress to the Technical Certificate in Plumbing Level 2.

You may also wish to progress your career in the workplace, through undertaking an Apprenticeship.

Additional costs include purchasing the Plumbing uniform at £70, which comprises of a black polo shirt, tough black work trousers, and steel toed work boots for workshop activities (which are a mandatory requirement).

It will be very useful to purchase the course text book- Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing City and Guilds 6035 ISBN:9780851932712 (around £25) to complement your studies.
