This Level 2 Part Time Plumbing Diploma is intended for those that want to gain the basic skills and knowledge needed to gain entry into the plumbing industry. It is also suitable for those that want to equip themselves with advanced plumbing knowledge and skills.

This qualification replaces the existing 6129 Level 2/3 Certificate in Plumbing Studies (technical certificates).

What will I do?

If you want to train as a professional plumber the Level 2 Plumbing Diploma will give you all the basics you need.

It involves a combination of practical and theory, and you will study in our spacious, industry-standard Plumbing workshop.

You will learn from expert tutors who have all worked in the industry and have extensive knowledge.

The course will teach you:

  • Working safely in plumbing
  • Key plumbing principles
  • Common plumbing processes
  • Cold water systems
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Sanitation systems
  • Central heating systems
  • Electrical supply
  • Environmental awareness
  • Effective working relationships

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 2 Plumbing Diploma.

However, if you haven’t already attended, you will be expected to complete a 4 week introductory taster course, taking place one evening a week in November/December 2019, with an end test allowing progression onto the full qualification.

The Plumbing Diploma will take you 18 months to complete. You will attend College for two evenings per week (Monday and Wednesday, 6pm - 9pm), term time only.

The Plumbing Diploma is available to those aged 19+ and will cost £1812.00

Fee remission may apply depending on personal circumstances, please enquire with the Registry Department for further information on 01205 365701

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

The Level 2 Plumbing Diploma consists of both practical and theoretical assessments.

Assessments include multiple choice testing and practical assignment, online tests at the end of each unit (there are 9 units in total).

You will also build a portfolio of work showing your skills through a variety of practical tasks.

At the end of your course there is a final practical assessment: a 5-day project to install a bathroom suite, and hot and cold water system. This will be marked and go towards your final grade.

You could progress into a role as a plumber, and you are in employment, you can work towards your NVQ in Plumbing. This is an on-site assessment - referred to in the industry as the 6189.

Alternatively, you could progress onto the new standards in plumbing which is a 4 year apprenticeship - which will fully qualify you as a plumber at Level 3.
