Do you have the ambition to own your own Plumbing business? National trade association industry (ABC) Associated Builders and contractors forecast the industry will experience a shortage of about 665,000 construction workers in 2023. Therefore there isn’t a better time to develop the skills you need to acquire your Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies./p>

The Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies qualification is for those who wish to work towards becoming a plumber in the building services industry. Taught by experienced industry professionals, the course has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning through an apprenticeship programme or into employment.

You will be taught by experienced staff who have worked both within a college environment and on site for a substantial number of years and will have access to state-of-the-art equipment which will assist candidates to achieve their qualification and help them learn relevant and current practices.

What will I do?

Over the year long course you will cover a range of units covering the latest industry practices. These units include:

  • Health and Safety and Industry Practices
  • Plumbing Processes
  • Electrical and Scientific Principles
  • Cold water
  • Hot Water
  • Central Heating
  • Sanitation and Drainage

Course relevant trips as well as guest lecturers will take place throughout the academic year to assist candidates achieving their employer involvement hours.

The direct entry qualifications for the Level 2 Plumbing Diploma are three GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including Maths, English, and Science along with completion of a Level 1 plumbing task at an assessment day or a relevant Level 1 vocational qualification.

You will attend college 3 days a week at our Boston Campus (Rochford). The course will take on academic year to complete, starting in September 2024.

The Plumbing Technical Certificate is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following mandatory assessments and exams:

  • 9 end of unit exams
  • 10 practical units with associated assessments within

The assessments on this course is split into 60% Practical Assessment and 40% Theory Assessment.

Completion of this course can lead directly onto the Plumbing, Heating and Gas Apprenticeship Level 3 here at Boston College.
