The Pearson Level 5 HND is a two year programme with the first year containing the same modules as the HNC whilst the second year provides greater breadth and specialisation and is the equivalent to the 2nd year of a University Degree.
The course is designed for those who wish to gain a performing arts qualification to further your career aspirations in the creative industries, or prepare them for further training or higher education.
This is a vocational qualification that will develop your theoretical knowledge and apply it into a practical setting to progress into one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK.
During the first year, you will study a range of HNC units such as:
Each module is assessed through a range of coursework assignments, presentations, practical group and individual work.
During your second HND year, you will study a range of units covering movement, drama, creative business and vocal technique, as well as setting up your own creative business.
Varied teaching strategies and learning environments are used which include classroom, portable theatre setups, dance studios and recording studio facilities.
The College also has links with a variety of local performing arts venues and businesses.
An MMP profile on the RSL Level 3 course or a related subject (minimum 80 new UCAS points), or an Access to HE qualification.
You will also need a Level 2 qualification or above in English and Maths (e.g. GCSE or Functional Skills) and/or minimum IELTS score 6.
Individual cases will be considered and please note relevant work experience will also be taken in to consideration if you fall outside of any of these categories.
The HND can also be studied as a one year top-up if you already hold a relevant HNC.
This course will take two years to complete. You will study at the Sam Newsom Music Centre for two days a week.

During your programme of study 25% will be within lecturers and 75% through independent study.

The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
All units are individually graded as a pass, merit or distinction. A pass is awarded for the achievement of all outcomes against the specified assessment criteria. Merit and distinction grades are awarded for higher level achievement.
Your assessment consists of 64% coursework and 36% practical examination e.g. presentations and group discussions.
Successful completion of the course should enhance your prospects of finding a career within the creative industries.
It will also enable you to have the opportunity to progress onto university and top-up your qualification in a degree in the areas of Performing Arts.
