If you did not get the grades that you needed, Boston College’s Pathways 2 Progress courses could be the opportunity for you to develop the skills to help you to progress to the next stage of your studies.

The programme offers an opportunity for young people to raise their aspirations, improve confidence and motivation, whilst learning skills that are relevant to further study, employment and personal development. Learning takes place in smaller groups and you will have an allocated personal tutor to ensure you get the support that you need throughout your course.

The P2P courses cover a number of vocational subjects, combined with a NOCN Level 1 Certificate qualification and work based projects to help you work more confidently and independently and prepare you for progression to the curriculum subject area of your choice.

What will I do?

If you enrol after our September start date for our the Pathways 2 Progress Certifcate you will study the NOCN Level 1 Awardin Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development and get an opportunity to visit local and regional businesses to observe and gain experience in a range of sectors.

Guest speakers from industry may also come and speak to you to give you an insight into the different careers you could progress into.

You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills including time management, communication skills, research skills and teamwork. As a part of the course you will continue to develop Maths, English and ICT Skills and attend weekly tutorials to meet with your personal tutor, review and set targets and cover a range of topics that support the development of an independent learner.

Within your weekly timetable you will have the opportunity to access a vocational subject and currently P2P offers:

  • Animal Care and Horticulture
  • Art
  • Catering
  • Construction
  • Motorsport Karting
  • Motor Vehicle
  • Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
  • Health and Social Care

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Pathways 2 Progress Award.

The Pathways 2 Progress course duration will vary depending on your start date. You will study at College for a minimum three days a week.

The Pathways 2 Progress course is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.

For those aged 19+, fees may vary depending on personal circumstances, please enquire for further information.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

The Pathways 2 Progress course is a combination of both practical and theory so you will learn and be assessed by completing either practical or scenario based activities and by writing assignments.

Assessments include: Maths and/or English exams, observation of practical skills, production of a portfolio (written, videoed, audio recorded), case studies, and role play.

This would give you the opportunity to progress to other courses within the college at Level 1 or 2, an apprenticeship, traineeship or employment.

Additional costs may include work related trips and visits.
