The Level 1 Automotive Engineering course follows on from the MSK karting course. It blends an introduction to Light Vehicle technology whilst continuing to expand the opportunities involved around Motor Sport & Karting.

What will I do?

You will study Light Vehicle systems to include engines, steering, suspension, braking alongside Health & Safety and have an introduction to Engineering equipment & materials.

Alongside the above you will continue to gain an understanding of motor sport with access to an International Kart racing venue and study content linked to the National Motor Sport Association.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grade 2 or above (Old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent (to include English or maths), or any one of the following, an Entry 3 qualification, a Certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, an ESOL Entry L3 qualification.

If you are unable to meet these entry requirements enrolment onto our Pathways to Progress provision will prepare you for progression into the curriculum area of your choice, either in-year (depending on progress made in the first six weeks) or the following September. We also offer full time ESOL courses which give you opportunity to develop your language skills further prior to progression into the curriculum area of your choice the following September.

The Automotive Engineering course will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for three-four days a week.

You will be expected to have a minimum attendance rate of 90%.

The Automotive Engineering course is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1200.
If full course payment is made on the first day of the course a discount may apply.

Successful completion of each unit is achieved by passing online exams & competence (practical) assessments

Additional costs include:

  • Cost of corporate clothing as per subject area requirements (will be discussed at interview)
  • Contribution towards educational visits
  • Educational resource (pens, folders, text books etc.)
