This engaging course is designed for aspiring filmmakers, content creators, and anyone passionate about producing impactful video content. Over the span of this course, you will learn the fundamentals of film production, from conceptualising ideas to executing them with industry-standard software, equipment, and techniques. The course covers essential topics such as research, storyboarding, camera work, lighting, sound design, and post-production editing, ensuring you gain a holistic understanding of the entire filmmaking process.

Like many of our courses, our Short Film and Video Content Production course stands out by offering hands-on experience and practical training with industry-standard equipment and software. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will work on real-world projects, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios that are important to you.

By the end of the course, you will have produced a short film or video project that showcases your skills and creativity, ready to impress friends, family, potential employers, or customers. There is also a chance that your work could be showcased in our independent film festival.

What will I do?

On this course you will study two units which link together to form a coherent pattern of teaching and learning. These two units will provide you with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to explore, enhance and sustain your creative development in the field of video production.

This course is delivered in a practical way, but there is a requirement for some written work and research in order to achieve the qualification.

An interest in film and video content production is essential, as well as two GCSEs at grades 2 or above (Old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent (to include English or maths).

Our Short Film and Video Content Production course will take you 4 months to complete, starting Wednesday 9th October 2024, 6:00pm – 8:00pm. You will attend college one evening a week at our Boston Campus (Rochford).

There is an expectation to complete some work at home to back up the classroom activity.

Short Film and Video Content Production may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st of August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £25,000 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost you £260.

You will be assessed through practical tasks and portfolio work, work-based evidence, and coursework underpinned with theory to give you a broad grounding in video content and short film production.

Successful completion of the course would allow you to progress to our level two evening programme planned for next year. However, further education, employment; including entry-level roles in the creative industries, and apprenticeships are all progression routes. Eligible candidates may pass this course and progress on to our Higher Education courses.
