The Level 2 Technical Diploma in Media is the course for you if you are passionate about film, television, graphic design and photography, and enjoy working in a creative and exciting environment.

You will work within our industry standard creative editing suites and studios to gain experience in many different areas of Media. You will learn how to produce creative films, graphic products and advertising campaigns, as well as developing your photography skills and learning about different Media products and audiences.

This qualification will allow you to progress to a Level 3 course upon completion, as long as entry requirements have been met.

What will I do?

You will study six different units, covering Film & TV Production, Graphic Design and Photography. You will also look at core Media issues relating to planning, research and audiences.

As a Media student you will have access to all of our facilities, including a HD TV studio and three iMac editing suites, you will also be using industry standard software to create your products.

Work experience will be sourced with local employers to give you real world experiences that relate to the creative sector. You are supported in identifying organisations for your placements, or you can generate these from your own contacts.

You will go on trips to visit places such as the Harry Potter Studios and course related museum visits. You will also have the chance to meet a number of guest speakers who work in different areas of the industry.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The entry qualifications for the Creative Media Production Diploma are five GCSEs at grades 1 or above (Old GCSE grade G or above) or equivalent, a portfolio of work or a Level 1 qualification.

The Media Technical Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College three-four days a week, 9:00am-4:30pm, plus independent study.

The course is also designed to allow free days to seek employment.

The Media Technical Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

You will be assessed through practical tasks (70%) such as group work, work based evidence, coursework and presentations, which will be underpinned with theory (30%) to give you a solid grounding in Media.

Successful completion of the course to a Merit or Distinction Level would allow you to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Qualifications in Media (Film), Art and Design, Graphic Design or Photography. You could also progress to other Level 3 courses delivered at Boston College.
