Upon successful completion of the first year, you can then progress on to the second year to study the Level 3 Creative Digital Media Production National Extended Diploma (Top Up), which is equivalent to three A levels.

If you are passionate about Film, Television & Animation, and enjoy working in a creative, exciting environment, then studying Creative Digital Media Production is the course for you. This is a practical and industry-focused course which will enable you to progress onto a career as a filmmaker, animator, games designer, YouTuber or a radio producer. You will work within our versatile Studio and creative editing suites to gain experience in the planning and production of a wide variety of media products, as well as engaging with local and national businesses to work on live industry briefs.

What will I do?

You will learn to produce both fictional and factual films, animations, social media content (such as YouTube) and much more. Your lecturers all have a working knowledge of the media industry and are still actively involved in the business outside of the College, resulting in accurate, up to date knowledge being shared in lectures.

During the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma, you will study 6 units, these consist of four mandatory units, two of which are externally assessed and two optional units covering Factual and Fictional Film Production.

During the second year, Level 3 National Extended Diploma, you will study a further seven units, three of these are mandatory units, two of which are externally assessed. The second year units will develop on your knowledge gained from the Foundation Diploma, building towards individual specialisms dependant on you interest/pathway.

As a Creative Digital Media Production student you will have access to all of our facilities, including a dedicated, versatile Studio and three iMac editing suites, and you will have access to a wide range of industry standard equipment and software.

Work experience will be sourced with local and national employers to give you real world freelance experiences that relate to the creative sector. You will be supported in identifying organisations for your placements, or you can generate these from your own contacts.

You will go on trips to visit places such as the Harry Potter Studios, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Film Studios and course related museum visits. You will also have the chance to meet a number of guest speakers who work in different areas of the industry.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Creative Digital Media Production National Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent, and a portfolio of work or a Level 2 qualification to a Merit standard.

If you do not have a portfolio of work to bring to the interview, you may be set a task to complete within 2 weeks as a condition to enrolment.
