This new 3-day course is delivered in partnership with Make UK and provides a practical introduction to programming PLCs for both engineers and electricians who already have a basic understanding of PLCs and who need to perform programming.

On this course you can expect to...

  • Work safely on modern industrial electrical/electronic control equipment
  • Systematically interrogate a range of commonly used Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Understand how PLCs are incorporated into modern electrical circuits
  • Interpret basic levels of ladder diagrams to facilitate change
  • Gain a basic understanding of inverter variable speed drives and make adjustments
  • Carry out basic checks on variable speed drives

What will I do?

The content of this courses includes:

  • Basic hardware troubleshooting
  • Theory of operation
  • I/O addressing
  • Understanding program notation I, Q, T, C, M, D, etc
  • Step 7 V11.0 user interface
  • Setting up a project
  • Hardware configuration
  • Program representation (LAD, FBD, STL)
  • Program structure and logic block types
  • Basic instruction set (timers, counters, flip flops)
  • Local and global variables
  • Data types and parameter types
  • Data blocks
  • Establishing online connections
  • Upload and download projects
  • Diagnostic functions (module information/diagnose hardware)
  • Program monitoring
  • Using cross reference function to aid fault finding
  • Searching for specific operands and instructions
  • Monitor and modify variables
  • Rewire function

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) training course.

The Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) training course will take you 3 days to complete and you will learn in our Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology (EMAT) centre.

The next available start date for this course will be Tuesday 11th October 2022, running on three consecutive days.

The Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) training course will cost £810 per person.

A bespoke troubleshooting course could be available through Make UK for delegates looking to progress and gain further knowledge of PLCs.
