Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies a need for a First Aider in the Workplace, this three-day Level 3 Award in First Aid qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and provides you with the knowledge and skills to take on the responsibilities of a First Aider in the workplace. The course includes on day 1 the full course for emergency first aid in the workplace, whilst day 2 and 3 cover recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace.

What will I do?

On day 1, you will complete Emergency First Aid in the Workplace Award Level 3 which will cover the following modules:
  • Legislation around First Aid
  • What first aid is and the responsibilities of a first aider
  • Action to take in an emergency
  • Primary survey
  • Secondary assessment
  • The respiratory system
  • Resuscitation and AED
  • Disorders of Respiration
  • Disorders of circulation
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Seizures
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Foreign objects

On day 2 and 3, you will complete the following topics:
  • Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace
  • Recap of DR ABC, secondary assessment, top to toe survey, gathering casualty history, recovery position
  • Bones, joints and muscle injuries
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Chest and abdominal injuries
  • Specialised burn injuries
  • Eye injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Major illness โ€“ Heart attack and angina, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma attack, Diabetic emergency

There are no formal entry qualifications for the First Aid at Work Award Level 3 course.

The First Aid at Work Award Level 3 course will take you 3 days to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm at our Rochford Campus in Boston starting on Monday 7th July 2025.

The First Aid at Work Award Level 3 course costs ยฃ330 per person.

Practical skills are evaluated throughout the day, leading to a comprehensive final assessment where learners work independently to apply life-saving procedures across a range of simulated incidents and casualty complexities. There will be written assessments at the end of Days 1 and 3.

Completion of this Level 3 course will equip the learner with the skills/knowledge needed to progress in the workplace.
