The Pre-Foundation in Care Programme is designed to provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the fields of health and social care, as well as children's and young people's settings. The programme aims to equip you with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a career in the Health and Social Care sector.

By completing the Pre-Foundation Programme in Care, you will be equipped with essential knowledge, skills, and certifications to pursue further education or entry-level employment in the health and social care sector. This programme serves as a stepping-stone for anyone interested in making a positive difference in the lives of others through a career in care.

The Pre-Foundation in Care Programme is the equivalent to a Level 1 Qualification.

What will I do?

The Pre-Foundation Care Programme is made up of 3 key areas and qualifications:

  • Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care
  • Award in preparing to work in Adult Social Care
  • Specific Care Sector Training

Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social care.
You will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles, values, and practices within the health and social care sector. This includes learning about the importance of person-centred care, confidentiality, and safeguarding.

Award in preparing to work in Adult Social Care.
You will receive guidance on preparing for a career in the health sector. This may involve exploring different job roles, career pathways, and the qualifications and skills required for entry-level positions. Additionally, you may receive support with job readiness skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, and professional conduct.

Specific Care Sector Training
You will also complete Care sector training including:

  • Moving and Handling: Safe techniques for lifting, moving, and transferring individuals in care settings
  • First Aid Awareness: Basic first aid principles and procedures for responding to emergencies in care settings./li>
  • Mental Health First Aid Awareness: Recognizing signs of mental health issues and providing initial support and guidance

To study the Pre-Foundation Care Programme you will need 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above.

The Pre-Foundation Care Programme will take you one year to complete. Starting September 2024 you will study in our specialist Care Centre of Regional Excellence (Care CoRE), based at our Boston Campus (Rochford).

The Pre-Foundation Care Programme is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

Assessment of the Pre-Foundation Care Programme ¬is done via a combination of written assessments and practical observations.

Successful completion of The Pre-Foundation Care Program will equip the learner with the skills and knowledge to progress onto other Health and Social Course available at the college or into employment.

You will be required to purchase a college uniform.
The college uniforms for our Health and Social Care department are representative of the uniforms worn by members of the Health and Care employment sectors.

Full details of where to purchase the uniform will be given at the interview stage of application.
