The Introductory Care Programme offers a holistic approach to building individuals' skills and resilience for success in employment and personal life. By focusing on social and personal development, enhancing writing skills, and providing insights into the care sector.

This programme equips learners with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in diverse environments and make meaningful contributions to society.

The Introductory Care Programme is the equivalent to any Entry 3 qualification.

What will I do?

The Introductory Care Programme is made up of 3 key areas and qualifications:

  • Certificate in Personal and Social Development
  • Certificate in Employability Skills
  • Specific Care Sector Training
Each area/qualification is detailed below:

Certificate in Personal and Social Development.

  • Resilience Building: Techniques for managing stress, adversity, and challenges in personal and professional life
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence: Understanding one's emotions, strengths, and areas for growth, and developing empathy towards others

A Certificate in Employability Skills.

  • Interview Preparation:Techniques for successful interview performance, including mock interviews and feedback sessions
  • Time Management and Organization: Prioritizing tasks, managing deadlines, and maintaining efficiency in the workplace
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Working effectively in a team environment, fostering cooperation, and resolving conflicts constructively

Specific Care Sector Training
You will also complete Care sector training including:

  • Moving and Handling
  • Mental Health First Aid Awareness
  • Infection Control Awareness
  • First Aid Awareness:
  • Food Safety and Nutrition Awareness:
  • Dementia Awareness

There are no formal entry requirements to study the Introductory Care Programme. Places are offered on and individual basis.

The Introductory Care Programme will take you one year to complete. Starting September 2024 you will study in our specialist Care Centre of Regional Excellence (Care CoRE), based at our Boston Campus (Rochford).

The Introductory Care Programme is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

Assessment of the Introductory Care Programme is done via a combination of written assessments and practical observations.

Successful completion of The Introductory Care Program will equip you with the skills and knowledge to progress onto other Health and Social Course available at the college or into employment.

You will be required to purchase a college uniform. The college uniforms for our Health and Social Care department are representative of the uniforms worn by members of the Health and Care employment sectors.

Full details of were to purchase the uniform will be given at the interview stage of application.
