The Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma is designed for those who wish to work within the Health and Social Care sector. You will be required to complete a minimum of 60 hours work placement over the duration of the course.

Tutors have a wide range of expertise within the field of health and social care including qualified nurses in the disciplines of adult nursing, learning disability and mental health as well as highly experienced social care managers.

Upon successful completion of this course, the qualification you will achieve is the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care .

Please note - Although legislation has changed, some workplaces do still require employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid19. We would encourage you to take part in any vaccination programme recommended if you are working or volunteering in Social Care. Not having a vaccination may impact your ability to complete placement activities as part of your course due to the vulnerability of some clients you may work with.

If you think you may be medically exempt from the COVID-19 mandatory vaccination. Learners will need to provide evidence of an NHS Covid pass medical exemption. There is further guidance on how to apply for a medical exemption and prove you are unable to get vaccinated on the government website.

What will I do?

During the Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma you will study the following modules:

  • Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
  • Communication in Health and Social Care
  • Working in Health and Social Care

Optional units include:

  • End of Life Care
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

The course also contains a work placement component in a Health and Social Care setting. During placement you will experience completing practical care tasks with individuals. You are supported by the tutor who will visit the setting when you are in placement.

You will also receive training sessions from competent tutors to include basic personal care and Manual Handling for which you will receive a certificate.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma are two GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) in English, Maths and preferably Science, Geography or History, and two GCSEs at grades 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D or above).

The Health and Social Care Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for three days a week.

The Health and Social Care Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

Assessments consist of various methods including written assignments, presentations, discussions and observations.

The Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma provides the underpinning knowledge relating to the Health and Social Care sector. It ensures excellent grounding for those wishing to progress ultimately onto University via the BTEC Level 3 or to progress onto a vocational progression route via a Traineeship or Apprenticeship.

Additional costs include textbook, memory stick, educational visits.

You will require a Disclosure, Vetting and Barring check (formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau) however this is paid for by the College.
