The Foundation Care Programme is specifically tailored to support you in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to progress onto the T Level qualification, which focuses on technical education and training in the health sector.
This programme aims to provide you with a solid foundation in various aspects of working in the health sector, as well as essential employment and personal learning skills. Additionally, you will gain a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, which are fundamental to many roles within the healthcare field.
The Care Foundation Programme is the equivalent to a Level 2 Qualification.
The Foundation Care Programme is made up of 6 key areas and qualifications:
Introduction to the Health Sector
You will be introduced to the healthcare industry, including its structure, key organizations, and the range of roles available within it, gaining an understanding of the importance of delivering high-quality care and supporting individuals' health and well-being.
Employment and Personal Learning Skills
The programme will focus on developing essential employability skills that are crucial for success in the workplace. This may include communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and professionalism. Additionally, you will be supported in developing your personal learning skills, such as self-motivation, organization, and reflection.
Basic Anatomy and Physiology
You will receive instruction in the basic principles of anatomy and physiology, including the structure and function of the human body systems. This knowledge will provide a foundation for understanding the underlying biological processes relevant to healthcare practice.
Preparation for T Level
The programme will prepare you for the transition to the T Level qualification in Healthcare. This may involve familiarizing them with the curriculum, assessment methods, and expectations of the T Level programme. Additionally, you may receive guidance on study skills, research techniques, and academic writing to support their success in further education.
Practical Experience and Work Placement
You will gain practical experience through work placements.
The Foundation Care Programme will take you one year to complete. Starting September 2024 you will study in our specialist Care Centre of Regional Excellence (Care CoRE), based at our Boston Campus (Rochford).
The Foundation Care Programme is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
Assessment of the Foundation Care Programme ¬is done via a combination of written assessments and practical observations.
Successful completion of The Foundation Care Program will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto other Health and Social Course available at the college or into employment.
You will be required to purchase a college uniform. The college uniforms for our Health and Social Care department are representative of the uniforms worn by members of the Health and Care employment sectors.
