The Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma is the perfect course for any individual, harbouring a passion for Graphic Design and who will thrive in a creative an exciting environment.
The Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma will be studied over two years. During your first year you will enrol on and study the Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Diploma. This is a standalone one-year qualification. Upon successful completion of the first year, you can then progress and enrol to study the Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A levels.
You will work within our fully functional graphic design studio, including access to iMacs with industry technology and creative art studio spaces. You will generate personalised projects relating to topics that interest you and engage with local businesses to work on 'real world' projects. You will learn how to construct advertising campaigns, logos, digital design concepts, graphic novels, print production and core graphic concepts.
Your lecturers all have a working knowledge of the Media industry and are still actively involved in the business outside of the College, resulting in accurate, up to date knowledge being share in lectures.
During your first year, Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Diploma, you will study six units, this consists of four mandatory units, two of which are externally assessed and one of which is synoptically assessed.
The focus of the units will be graphic design techniques, processes and communication. You will then have the specialist units studying themes such as advertising, branding, option graphics, mixed media, typography and layout design.
During the second year, Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma, you will study a further seven units, three of these are mandatory units and are externally assessed. The second year units will develop on your knowledge gained from the National Diploma, building towards individual specialisms dependent on your interest/pathway. This course will culminate with a final major project and exhibition.
You will have access to a bespoke iMac suite to complete your graphic design work and use of an art studio. In broader terms, you will also have access to a television studio, two additional iMac suites, photography studio and darkroom. You will also be using industry standard software.
Work experience will be sourced with local employers to give you real world experiences that relate to the creative sector. You will be supported in identifying organisations for your placements, or you can generate these from your own contacts.
Industry relevant trips are arranged as well as guest speakers from the industry are also used to show the link between course content and current practice.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) or a Merit on Level 2 Diploma course, and a portfolio of work.
If you are concerned about the above entry requirements an alternative course available is the Level 2 in either Creative Media Production or Art and Design as a pathway to progress.
The Graphic and Digital Design National Extended Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £27,295 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Successful completion of this course can lead to continuing your education at university in such course as Graphic Design, Art and Design and Media.
As well as employment within a wide range of job roles such as animator, architect, cartoonist, illustrator, interior design, logo and sign designer, packaging designer, production designer, storyboard artist, typographer, web designer.
There may be an opportunity to complete an Industry Placement alongside your main Level 3 course.
Industry placements give you the chance to put into practice what you have learned and you will have the opportunity to spend an average of 50 days working for an employer, in a role directly relevant to your course.
With an Industry Placement you will gain technical skills, be prepared for the world of work, and gain connections in order to secure a job after your course.
