At Boston College, you can achieve GCSE English Language at grade C (New GCSE grade 4) in just one year. This course will deepen your understanding of English Language through a variety of classroom and homework tasks.
GCSE English Language is a requirement for entry onto university courses and a grade C (New GCSE grade 4) is requested by most employers.
Every year at least one student tells college staff they wish they had retaken GCSE English Language when they had the chance. Some have to defer entry to university whilst they pay to study at an evening class. Others are unable to continue with their plans for the future. Will you regret not retaking GCSE English Language?
GCSE English Language is a requirement for entry onto university courses and a grade C (New GCSE grade 4 or above) is still requested by most employers. If your ambition is to be a teacher (of any subject) you must hold grade C (New GCSE grade 4) English. The team of staff are friendly and supportive. If you do not already hold a grade C (New GCSE grade 4 or above) we strongly encourage you to take up this opportunity.
GCSE English is a key qualification and is suitable for those learners who hold a grade 3 in their GCSE (Old GCSE Grade D) or ESOL learners who have achieved Functional Skills Level 2.
To study this course you will need to be able to cope with the regular commitment of a once a week class and capable of some independent study.
If you're an Adult learner you will need to undertake a test to check your ability.
The GCSE English Language will take you one year to complete.
This course is free for those who do not currently hold a GCSE at grade A* - C (New GCSE grade 4 or above).
The current fee for those are who have already attained GCSE in English at A* - C (New GCSE grade 4 or above) and those who have lived in the EU for less than three years is Β£811.

You will be assessed by two exam papers.
The Fiction reading and writing paper is 1 hour and 45 minutes long, and the Non-fiction reading and writing paper is 2 hours long.
Paper 1 - 40% of your marks.
Paper 2 - 60% of your marks.
