Preparation Studies (Vocational Link) course is designed to give you a solid introduction to vocational education, helping you explore and choose the right pathway within mainstream college. As a stepping stone to further study, this Level 1 course equips you with the essential skills and knowledge to progress confidently into your chosen vocational area.

During the course, you'll work towards the Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training, and Personal Development (NOCN), helping you build the skills needed for employment and future training. If you're unsure about which vocational route to pursue, this course provides the perfect opportunity to explore your options and prepare for the next step in your educational journey.

In order to support those doing this, the Foundation department works with the Level 1 course areas to offer a course that gives you some time in both areas.

What will I do?

You will attend vocational sessions in the main college within subject areas of your choice. You will work in small groups with support and this will assist you in the move to main college.

For the remainder of the timetable you will attend sessions within the Foundation department to continue with English and Maths and preparation for work skills.

The aim of this course is to support progression into mainstream programmes, which should be accessible the following year.

Trips may also be arranged to support your learning within the course.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Foundation Link Level 1

This course will take one year to complete. You will study at College for a maximum of 4 days a week.

This course is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course and those aged 19+ and on an EHCP.

This course is 70% practical and 30% theory. You will be assessed by group work, course work and work based evidence.

Successful completion of this course can lead to a Level 1 course at the College or employment.
