Functional Skills Maths – Block Week
Add to ShortlistIf you need a qualification to help you progress your career, take your next steps in education or develop your knowledge for further training and development then a functional skills course could be for you.
The Functional Skills Maths course is available on two levels: Level 1 and Level 2. You will undertake an initial assessment to determine which level will be most suitable for you to start at. It is recognised by employers and most universities.
Functional Skills Maths gives you the skills to function effectively in your life and work.
What will I do?
You will have the opportunity to:
- Learn or improve your basic number skills
- Know how to calculate, measure and handle money at home or work
- Use the four rules of number, fractions, decimals and percentages
- Use a calculator
- Use and interpret charts, graphs, tables and statistics
- Develop problem solving skills
The course is delivered by experienced tutors using a variety of interesting resources. Sessions are friendly and fun and allow you to work at your own pace. You will study in our classrooms and via e-learning.
Entry Qualifications
Functional Skills Maths is a key qualification and is suitable for those learners who do not currently hold a GCSE in the subject or ESOL learners who have achieved ESOL Level 2 in reading and speaking and listening.
To study this course, you will need to be able to cope with the commitment of a full week course where attendance is vital to every session, you will also need to be able to undertake some independent study.
Attendance
This course will take you 5 days to complete, over 1 week .
Starting Monday 17th July 2023, you will attend college at our Boston Campus (Rochford), between 9:30am and 3:00pm, Monday to Thursday, with your examinations taking place on the Friday.
You will also attend an assessment day prior to the course beginning, to evaluate the level that will best suit you . The assessment date will be on Thursday 15th June, between 5:30pm and 7:30pm at our Boston Campus (Rochford).
You will be required to bring the following equipment:
- Pen
- Pencil
- Exercise book
- Calculator
- A ruler
- A protractor
- A compass
Fees
The Functional Skills Maths course is free.
How Will I Be Assessed
You will do an end of course externally set online examinations.
Where Could It Lead?
Certificates in Maths can help you to gain access to further training, in work and in your day-to-day lives as well as career progression and enhanced job opportunities.
Level 1 is equivalent to vocational GCSE grades 2 β 3 (Old GCSE grade E - D).
Level 2 is equivalent to vocational GCSE grades 4 - 5 (Old GCSE grade C).
