Working with Children and Young People is a FREE five week course to help you gain employment in the sector. The course covers a broad range of topics enabling you to gain qualifications in a wide range of skills required within the industry.

Are you aged over 19? Unemployed and looking at employment opportunities? Earning less than ££18,525 (annual gross salary) a year and looking at learning a new skill? The employability team at Boston College will be able to help you. We offer a range of FREE courses to help you gain new skills, build your confidence and get you back to work.

What will I do?

The Level 1 accredited topics you will cover during the Working with Children and Young People course includes –

  • Introduction to children and young people’s development.
    The aim of this unit is to introduce the main stages of development, the factors which affect development and how to support the development of children and young people
  • Introduction to the physical care of babies and young children.
    The aim of this unit is to introduce you to the requirements of the physical care needs and routines for the safe care of babies and young children
  • Encourage children and young people to eat healthily.
    The aim of this unit is to provide you with knowledge about healthy eating and how to encourage children and young people to eat healthy
  • Introduction to the development of children and young people through play.
    The aim of this unit is to introduce you to factors that promote inclusive and stimulating play environments and the importance of play to children and young people’s development
  • Introduction to communication in health and social care, early years and childcare.
    The aim of this unit is to provide you with an introduction to communication methods and how to communicate with any child, young person or adult

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Working with Children and Young People course.

The Working with Children and Young People course will take you three weeks to complete, attending College for five hours per week. You will study this course at either our Boston or Spalding Campus.

The next available start date for this course in Boston is Friday 4th November 2022.

The next available start date for this course in Spalding is Thursday 3rd November 2022.

Tuition fees are FREE for those in receipt of JSA, ESA (WRAG) or some Universal Credit, also for those on low wages.

The assessment of this course will be via workbooks.
