Taught by lecturers with years of industry experience, this course is perfect for anyone looking to develop their learning and progress into a career in the Health and Social Care or, Early Years Sectors.

What will I do?

The learning on this course is divide across 14 units that you will cover whilst studying. These Units are:

  • Unit 1: Understand the range of service provision and roles within Health and Social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Unit 2: Introductory awareness of Person-Centred support in Health and Social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Unit 3: Awareness of protection and safeguarding in Health and Social care, early years, and childcare
  • Unit 4: Introduction to Mental Health
  • Unit 5: Introduction to Dementia
  • Unit 6: Introduction to children and young people’s development
  • Unit 7: Introduction to the physical care of babies and young children
  • Unit 8: Encourage children and young people to eat healthy
  • Unit 9: Introduction to communication in health and social care early years and childcare
  • Unit 10: Introduction to the development of children and young people through play
  • Unit 11: Understand the principles and values in health and social care early years and childcare
  • Unit 12: Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Unit 13: Introductory awareness of Health and Safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Unit 14: Introduction to Autistic spectrum condition

There are no formal entry requirements needed to study the Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social care and Children's and young people's settings.

The Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social care and Children's and young people's settings will be studied at either our Boston campus on a Friday or Spalding campus on a Thursday, start dates are flexible and this course can also be studied online via distance learning. The course will take between 4 and 14 weeks dependent on the pace that the units are completed.

The Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social care and Children's and young people's settings is FREE through the Adult Education Budget, providing you are aged 19 or older on the 31st of August at the start of the current academic year.

The assessment of this course is completed via workbook, either at home or in class.

Completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social care and Children's and young people's settings will allow you to progress onto a Level 2 course in a similar course area, here at Boston College.
