The Essential Digital Skills qualifications (EDSQs) Entry 3 is for adults who don’t have the basic digital skills they need for life and work.

Technology has become so integrated in everyday life that we can hardly remember what the world looked like before our multi-device, constant-connectivity fantasy future became today's reality.

It’s expected that technology will become even more intuitive and ingrained in our daily life, and this leads to one important conclusion: the better equipped we are to handle this technological shift, the better our adjustment to it.

It is estimated that one in five adults lack foundation skills in digital technology. To fill this gap, the Department for Education has introduced the digital skills qualifications for adults.

Do you want to know how to:

  • Use devices such as tablet, iPad, phones, laptops and PCs and handle information
  • Be able to create and edit documents
  • Communicate online with friends, family and employers using different apps such as WhatsApp and Skype
  • Do you want to be able to buy things online, such as your shopping, holidays, apply for jobs and pay your bills?
  • Know how to keep safe and be responsible and legal online

You will be taught by experienced IT staff who have a wealth of knowledge about all the latest devices and the course will help you to progress onto other online learning to develop your career giving you better skills for the workplace as well as your everyday family life.

What will I do?

There a 5 units to this course all of which are mandatory, these are:

  • Using devices and handling information
  • Creating and editing
  • Communicating
  • Transacting
  • Being safe and responsible online

Your current level of English should be at least Entry Level 2 for you to study this course. If your level of English skills are above this requirement a suitable course may be the Essential Digital Skills (EDSA) Level 1.

To study this course, you will need to be able to cope with the regular commitment of a once a week class and capable of some independent study.

The Essential Digital Skills (EDSA) Entry 3 course will take you 15 weeks to complete, classess will take place in both Boston, Spalding and Horncastle.

This course is free to adults aged 19+ who meet the specific entry requirements.

This course is assessed via an online examination and internal assessment during the course.

Progression could lead onto a Level 1 or 2 Functional Skills in English and maths, alternatively any other distance learning course.

There are no additional costs, however, it will be useful to have your own device such as a tablet, laptop or PC.
