We recognise that everyone has different needs and goals, and the aim of our Employability Support Team is to ensure we support you with quality training and professional advice designed around your specific needs. Our advisers and tutors have extensive experience working with people like you, ranging from those who have recently been made redundant, to supporting those who have been unemployed for longer periods of time.

Are you aged over 19? Unemployed and looking at employment opportunities? Earning less than £18,525 (annual gross salary) a year and looking at learning a new skill? The employability team at Boston College will be able to help you. We offer a range of FREE courses to help you gain new skills, build your confidence and get you back to work.

What will I do?

The Customer Service and Retail course will cover a broad range of topics aimed at developing your skills for employment.

  • Career Planning – which includes identifying personal skills and qualities, what are transferable skills and how to relate these to different job industries. How to access information, advice and guidance
  • Interview techniques – hints and tips on different types of interview
  • Equality and Diversity – what is equality, diversity and stereotyping
  • Group and Teamwork skills – Identify different roles within the team and where you fit into these. Reflect on tasks completed as a team
  • Recognising employment opportunities – identify all the different types of opportunities and how to progress within them. Matching your skills to the local opportunities
  • CV writing – How to keep your CV updated and digital CV’s including social media
  • Exploring Occupational Sector – Find out what jobs are available in different industries
  • IT in the workplace – understanding different types of applications used including software. Understand IT procedures including data protection and confidentially
  • Problem Solving in the Workplace
  • Retail selling process – identifying selling techniques, understanding customer needs and product information
  • Customer Service Skills – Identify good and poor services, techniques of assisting customers and dealing with problems and complaints

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Customer Service and Retail course.

The Customer Service and Retail courses take five weeks to complete and will start at both our Boston, Spalding and Horncastle Campuses.

Please note you can start on this course anytime during the five week duration.

Tuition fees are FREE for those in receipt of JSA, ESA (WRAG) or some Universal Credit, also for those on low wages.

The assessment of this course will be via workbooks.
