Developed in line with the latest IET Code of Practice, this Level 3 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Award (PAT Testing: City & Guilds 2377-77) course focusses on the formal inspection, testing and recording of electrical equipment with special regard for portable appliance testing. This course is designed for practicing electricians, providing a useful qualification for anyone working in the Electrotechnical industry.

The course is delivered using hands-on practical tuition to provide the skills needed to address typical contemporary challenges and to prepare delegates for the C&G 2377-77 exam which has replaced the previous 2377-22-32 course. The qualification is aimed at those with responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment and for those undertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It allows those with the responsibility for the testing and inspection of electrical equipment to gain a qualification suitable to their job role.

What will I do?

The content of the Level 3 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Award (PAT Testing: City & Guilds 2377-77) course includes:

  • The legal requirement, purpose and frequency of inspection and testing of electrical equipment
  • The main inspection and testing requirements prescribed in the IET Code of Practice for service of inspection and testing of electrical equipment
  • Equipment construction and definition
  • Approved testing procedures with Portable Appliance Testers
  • Establish maintenance charts and registers, recording results
  • Introduction to test instruments
  • Equipment inspection and practical testing
  • Test result analysis

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Award (PAT Testing: (City & Guilds 2377-77) are a Level 2 electrical qualification; this can be the old City & Guilds 2360 part 1 or the current City and Guilds 2330 Level 2 or be practising electrician.

The In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Award (PAT Testing: City & Guilds 2377-77) will take you two days to complete, running at our Boston Campus (Rochford).

Assessment methods will include an open book on-line exam (scheduled at the end of the course or taken remotely by the candidate) and a short practical assessment (completed during the course).

Progression routes from this course include studying at HE Level, or progressing directly into employment
