The Level 3 Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Diploma has been developed by an industry approved awarding body. It comprises both theory and practical sessions that when completed, and achieved, gives you a Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installations.

You will gain the skills and knowledge to progress further within the industry and follows approved, structured and recognised assessment processes.

What will I do?

The Level 3 Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Diploma will give you the opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge of the electrical installation industry and is delivered approximately as a 50/50 split between theory and practical sessions.

Units include Planning and Overseeing, Principles of Electrical Science, Fault Diagnosis and Inspection and Testing.

During the year, we aim to offer external visits, trips and support from internal and external speakers to compliment your experience.

In addition to your main course, you will also study:
Tutorial and employment related studies to prepare you for future employment.

Individual Learning Plans: You will have a personal tutor to help you to plan your learning journey on an individual basis. This is your opportunity to plan realistic targets and maximise your potential.

One to one support is available if and when required during your time at college, this can be for course or non-course related issues.

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Diploma are completion of the Level 2 Electrical course, a satisfactory reference and good attendance report.

The Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for a maximum of four days a week.

The Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

Aged 19+.

For those aged 19+, this course will cost £3345.

You may be eligible to study this course for FREE should you be eligible under one of the following criteria:

  • Aged 19 or over, and earning less than £20,319
  • Aged 19 or over, and currently unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
  • Aged 19 or over and do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification

Alternatively, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Your eligibility depends on your course, nationality, and age. Your final assessment will consist of a theory exam and a synoptic practical assessment.

The full achievement of the Electrical Installations Diploma will allow progression onto a Higher Education course or, after gaining employment within the electrical industry, advancement onto an Advanced Apprenticeship where you would be placed on a day release programme in conjunction with your employer.

Additional costs include cost of corporate clothing as per subject area requirements (will be discussed at interview), contribution towards educational visits and educational materials (pens, folders etc. as required by subject areas)

There may be an opportunity to complete an Industry Placement alongside your main Level 3 course.

Industry placements give you the chance to put into practice what you have learned and you will have the opportunity to spend an average of 50 days working for an employer, in a role directly relevant to your course.

With an Industry Placement you will gain technical skills, be prepared for the world of work, and gain connections in order to secure a job after your course.

  • Give yourself a head start in knowing what type of job you may want to go into after finishing your course.

  • Take a step forward professionally, knowing the behaviours expected in the workplace.

What will I do?

  • You will take part in an average of 50 days placement in a role that is directly relevant to your course, in an external organisation.
  • You will develop the practical and technical skills required for your profession/trade.
  • You will develop employability skills such as communication, teamwork and time management.

An existing part time job may qualify as an Industry Placement if it meets the criteria set by the College.
