The T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction will provide you with an understanding of the BSE industry and the sector. Topics covered include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Construction science principles
  • Sustainability in the construction industry
  • Building services engineering systems

This qualification is aimed at anyone aged 16-19-years old who is looking to progress into a career within the Building Services Engineering Industry.

This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in construction, specifically in areas such as electric installation and maintenance, plumbing or heating. Succesful completion of this course can lead to careers as a:

  • Electrician
  • Gas Service Technician
  • Building Services Engineer
  • Engineering Construction Engineer
  • Security Systems Installer

As well as classroom learning you will gain valuable industry experience by completing a 315 hour industry placement alongside your studies.

What will I do?

The technical qualification is made up of two components, both of which need to be successfully achieved:

The Core Component

The core content is the building blocks of knowledge and skills that will give you a broad understanding of the industry and job roles. At the same time, it will develop the core skills you will need to apply when working within the industry. Studying the Building Services for Engineers T-Level will develop your general understanding of construction, including:

  • Health and Safety
  • The science behind building design, surveying and planning
  • Making accurate and appropriate measurements
  • Construction methods
  • Building regulations and standards
  • Data management and information standards in construction
  • Relationship management and customer service
  • How the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction
  • Digital engineering techniques
  • Mathematical techniques to solve construction problems
  • Construction design principles and processes
  • The construction industry and its role in the economy
  • Sustainability and the environmental impact of construction
  • Business, commerce and corporate social responsibility

You will also learn about topics specific to building services engineering, including:

  • Building technology principles
  • Building services engineering systems
  • Maintenance principles
  • Tools, equipment and materials

Occupational Specialisms

In addition to the core content, each student must choose one of the following specialisms:

  • Electrical and electronic equipment engineering
  • Electrotechnical engineering
  • Gas engineering
  • Protection systems engineering
  • Plumbing and heating engineering
  • Heating engineering and ventilation
  • Refrigeration engineering and air conditioning engineering

In order to study this course, you must have either 5 GCSE;s (Grade 5 or above) including English, Maths and Science, or a full Level 2 electrical installations qualification with Maths and English GCSE’s (Grade 4 or above).

You will also need to have an attendance rate of at least 90% and a reference from a past course.

The Level 3 Building services Engineering for Construction T Level Technical Qualification will take you two years, attending five days per week (including your industry placement).

The Building services Engineering for Construction T Level Technical Qualification Level 3 is free, if you are aged 16-18 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

You will be assessed through exams, assessments, projects and practical observations.

Completion of the Building Services Engineering for Construction T-Level will equip you will the skills and knowledge needed to progress into a career in the Building Service Engineering Industry. This can be as a full time employee or as an apprentice.

Successful completion of this T-Level will also allow you to progress into Higher Education Courses and Apprenticeships.

All students studying in our construction areas are required to purchase a college uniform. All college uniforms are representative of the workwear that is worn in the construction sectors.
