The Level 1 Working with Children Award will enable you to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the needs of young children aged 0-5 in a variety of settings.

It is perfectly suited to those passionate and thinking about working with children or those currently employed within the sector and looking to further develop their skillset.

This course can also be used to aid career progression as well as preparing you to progress onto other qualifications within Early Years or Schools.

What will I do?

During the Level 1 Working with Children Award you will cover the following -

  • Encouraging children to eat healthily
  • Creating a safe environment for young children
  • Working in a team
  • Contribute to equality of opportunity in support of young children’s development
  • Provide a range of appropriate play activities for young children

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 1 Working with Children Award.

The Level 1 Working with Children Award will be studied at Boston College Rochford Campus, with your sessions being between 09:30am and 12:30pm on the dates below. The course will take a total of 4 months to complete via remote learning after the initial in-person session.

The Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £17,374.50 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost you £295.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

Your knowledge will be assessed through written tasks set within a booklet for each unit.

Completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 2 course at the college.
