Our Level 3 (Advanced) Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship will provide you with an in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to work directly with children and young people in school and college environments.

This qualification provides learners with an in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments.

You will covers all aspects of specialist support, including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher. Bilingual support; special needs support, personal development and reflective practice.

What will I do?

As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice you will be employed in an School setting for four and a half days per week gaining practical industry expertise whilst you carry out the role.

You will attend college for half a day per week, during this time you will attend workshops delivered by industry trained staff which will enable you to carry out the written work to complete your qualification and you will be supported to reach the pathway to end point assessment to achieve the standard.

You will be assessed through a range of methods including, observations, written assignments, product evidence, reflections and a professional discussion.

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship are five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above), including English and maths.

The Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship will take you 18 months to complete. You will study at College for half a day a week, and four and a half days with your employer.

The Apprenticeship is an independent learning programme. You will complete a qualification during your training and will be expected to complete assignments on time.

As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

There are different rates of pay for apprentices depending on your age and what year of your apprenticeship you’re in.

Aged 16 to 18.

The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £5.28 per hour.

Aged 19 or over and in your first year.

The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £5.28 per hour.

Aged 19 or over and have completed your first year.

You’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate for your age.

You will be assigned an assessor who will observe your practice in your School setting throughout the duration of your course, your assessor will offer support and guidance to help you achieve the requirements of the qualification and standard.

When yourself, employer and your assessor feel you are ready you will be put forward for the End Point Assessment which will be carried out by an independent assessor.

You could progress on to a career as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

Progression onto a Foundation degree such as Learning Support / SEND. Leading to Full degree e.g. BA Hons, Graduate Teacher Programme, Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

Additional costs include purchasing textbooks, stationary equipment and you must have access to a computer/tablet.
