The Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate is designed for those new to supporting learning within a school or college. The course will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively support children and young people with their learning, by addressing key issues within education, including safeguarding, assessment for learning and understanding schools as organisations.
Upon successful completion of this course, the qualification you will achieve is the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
During the course, you will study 11 mandatory units:
You will be working in either a voluntary or paid placement for the duration of the course. This can be in a primary, secondary, special, independent school or a college, working with children and young people aged 4+.
Alongside your placement, monthly workshops on Teams will run covering the requirements for each assignment.
As a Boston College student, you will have access to the library at Boston's Rochford Campus where can you access a range of books to support your course or use the computers or printers. You may also access the coffee shop, bistro and canteen at the Rochford Campus.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate.
You will need however, a placement within a setting for the duration of the course.
If you do not hold English and Maths at GCSE grade 4 (Old GCSE grade C) or an equivalent you are encouraged to undertake these qualification.
The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate will take you one year to complete.
This course is flexible to fit around other commitments. You will need to ensure that you can complete a placement within a setting during this time.
Learning will take place on Teams where you will need to attend a once a month worskhop, meaning you can access the course online without having to travel.
The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £806.

This course is 50% practical and 50% theory. You will be assigned to an assessor and they will come and observe you in the school placement.
The observations and assignments will build up a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your skills and knowledge within your role. You will also collect other types of evidence to build up your portfolio including witness testimonies, professional discussions, product evidence and assessor questions.
