Have you ever wanted to work with children aged 5+? Have you ever considered a career within a school? If you are passionate about working with children and supporting their learning, this could be the course for you.

Completion of the Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award can help you progress onto other courses and open up opportunities for a career within schools. With the aim to becoming a Teaching Assistant, Midday Supervisor or other student facing roles, you will work on developing your knowledge and understanding of what it means to work within schools. The course is delivered by lecturers with invaluable industry experience.

What will I do?

During the Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award you will cover the following -

  • Understand Schools as Organisations
  • Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe, and well
  • Understand how to communicate with children, young people, and adults

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award.

The Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award will be studied at either our Boston Campus (Rochford) or Boston College Horncastle Campus, with your initial session running between 9:30am and 12:30pm on the below dates. The course will take a total of 3 sessions to complete running over 3 months.

Horncastle Campus. 22nd April 2024.

The Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools Award may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £17,374.50 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost you £210.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

This course will all be assessed via written assignments.

Completion of this course could lead to progression onto the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools course.

There are no additional costs related to this course.
