The Level 2 Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Practitioner) Technical Diploma is designed for those learners who want to start a career in early years education and care sector.It provides a full level 2 qualification with significant time spent in the workplace to develop key skills for employment in the sector.

What will I do?

The Level 2 Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Practitioner) Technical Diploma supports you to develop skills and knowledge related to a career working with children.It includes a placement element within early years settings where you will be supported to develop specific practical skills of communication, supporting learning and development and working with others and will be practically assessed on these.You will also spend time in college learning about a range of topics including child development, supporting young children’s learning and working with others.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Practitioner) Technical Diploma are five GCSEs at grades 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D and above) including English and Maths. An equivalent qualification in English and Maths such as Functional Skills Level 1 is also accepted.

The Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Practitioner) Technical Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend college for 5 days per week, 2 days will be course related in college, 2 days in placement and 1 day specifically for English/Maths study.

The Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Practitioner) Technical Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1200.Fee remission may apply depending on personal circumstances, please enquire with the Registry Department for further information on 01205 365701Please note that all fees are subject to change.

You will be expected to demonstrate a range of skills specific to the early years sector in completion of a ‘Placement Experience Assessment Portfolio of Evidence’. You will complete written assignments related to your knowledge and experiences and 2 external assessments.

This is an ideal qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment (in a supervised capacity) in the early years sector, or move forward onto a level 3 qualification.

There are no additional costs. However, course materials such as textbooks etc would need to be acquired by the learner.
