Award in an Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years Level 2

This qualification provides an introduction to the early development of the brain in babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age. It looks at how the social brain develops, the limbic system and self-regulation. It covers factors such as stress, adverse childhood experiences and special educational needs and disabilities which may affect development in children.

What will I do?

Over the 10 weeks you will study 2 units.

  • Unit 1: Understanding neuroscience in early years
  • Unit 2: Understanding self-regulation and how to nurture this in children from birth to seven years

As this is an adult learning course, you will need to be aged be 19+ as at 31st August prior to the start of the current academic year. You will also need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent, as the course requires you write your answers for assessment purposes.

This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.

We do accept that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses. If you find yourself struggling with the qualification, our support staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution. However, if you are studying a free course and choose to withdraw, you may have to pay a non-completion fee of £85 to cover the administration costs, materials and registration fees. *subject to eligibility.

You will access your study materials online and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There will be online assessments to complete and submit related to the content.

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects.
