Our Level 4 (Higher) Software Developer Apprenticeship will require you to develop and apply practical knowledge of all aspects of Software Development to include understanding and operations of all stages of the software development lifecycle and the similarities and differences (taking into account positives and negatives of both approaches) between agile and waterfall software development methodologies, you will also look at other current methodologies.
Show an understanding of how teams work effectively to produce software and how you can contribute appropriately and apply software design approaches and patterns and have an ability to interpret and implement any given design, compliant with security and maintainability requirements, as well as understanding and responding to the set up of a business and the business environment.
To have an understanding of the mathematics required to be a software developer (e.g. algorithms, logic and data structures) and having the ability to apply your mathematical knowledge.
During the Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship you will acquire technical competencies, understanding and knowledge in several areas linked to the role of a “Software Developer”.
These will include Research, Basic theory, Logic code writing, Design, testing creation, building, Analysing and Problem Solving. Understand and use up to date design methodology in terms of all stages of the Software Lifecycle. Apply good practical approaches to software development and use and abide by all standards implied, mandatory or expected. Ability to interpret design documents and functional and technical specifications.You will do this in the work place, at College and by examination, vendor qualifications and the creation and writing of case studies/ projects. The completion of mini assignments will also be necessary to test your acquired knowledge and understanding.
The entry qualifications for the Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship are a Level 3 qualification in an associated subject including English and Maths, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 2 or above.
You will also need to be in a relevant job role.
The Software Developer Apprenticeship will take you 24 months to complete.
You will be expected to attend College for at least 10-12 days of study with any given one year period. These dates will be made available to both yourself and the employer at the start of your apprenticeship.
As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.90 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.
In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:
Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.35 per hour.
18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £6.15 per hour.
21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.70 per hour.
25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £8.21 per hour.
