The Level 2 Business Diploma has been designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in business, perfect for those who are looking to progress their studies onto level 3 and beyond.

You will learn about business through completion of projects and assignments, based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

This two year course consists of two separate qualifications. The first year you will complete the BTEC Business First Certificate, Entry 3 Digital Skills and Lessons in Financial Education (LiFE) qualifications.

Additionally, you will study Math and English qualifications and complete 30 hours work experience.

What will I do?

This course is designed to develop your knowledge in the business sector and will equip you with key skills to support progression and employability.

You will study the BTEC Level 2 Business Certificate. This is taught over a number of units which includes:

  • Economic Environments
  • Principles of Marketing
  • Managing Personal Finance

Additionally, In the first semester, you will study the entry level 3 Essential Digital Skills qualification which covers five skills areas:

  • Using devices and handling information
  • Creating and editing
  • Communicating
  • Transacting
  • Being safe and responsible online

This will equip you with essential skills needed to help you progress in further education and employment.

In the second semester you will also study the Level 2 Award in Financial Education (AiFE). This introduces you to personal finance and the economy, financial management skills and enterprise.

On successful completion of the Business Certificate, you can top up and progress to the full Level 2 Diploma in Business and will study the following:

  • Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Business
  • Level 1 Essential Digital Skills
  • Level 2 Level 2 Certificate in Financial Education (CeFE)

The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, individual learning plans, external visits, events and speakers.

You will also complete a minimum of 30 hours work placement. Whilst you will be supported in this, you should seek to secure your own placement to ensure it is the best fit for you.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Business Diploma are four GCSEs at grade 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D or above) including English and Maths (or equivalent), or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1 or above.

Successful completion of a Business or Computing Level 1 (or a related course) along with the above English and Maths requirements and satisfactory reference may also be acceptable.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths. Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The Business Diploma will take you a year to complete. You will attend College for a minimum of four days a week, plus independent study and work experience.

The Business Certificate is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, which include observation, written assessments and discussions with tutor. Two of the units are assessed by an external examination with the remainder being internally assessed at a pass, merit or distinction grade.

Successful completion of the Business Certificate to a Merit or Distinction standard along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 2 Diploma and then L3 Diploma. It could also lead to employment or an Apprenticeship in a business, administration or retail role.

Additional costs include purchasing an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper. You may also be required to pay for exam resits.
