If you are interested in the world of business this course will give you a broad introduction to key business topics including finance, marketing, recruitment, retail and enterprise. You will also develop the skills that are sought after by employers such as teamwork, problem solving, time management and effective communication.

You can expect to develop employability and enterprise skills from experienced, friendly tutors with a wealth of industry experience. You will also gain a broad range of skills needed for the business world. You will do scenario-based external assessments and assignments which include presentations, reports and poster presentations and role play.

What will I do?

The Level 2 Business Extended Certificate is taught over a number of units which typically includes:

  • Enterpirse om the Business World
  • Finance for Business
  • Principles of Marketing

This course will widen your knowledge and ensure your learning experience is diverse and exciting.

The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, individual learning plans, external visits, events and speakers.

You will also complete a minimum of 60 hours work placement. Whilst you will be supported in this, you should seek to secure your own placement to ensure it is the best fit for you.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Business Certificate are four GCSEs at grade 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D or above) including English and Maths (or equivalent), or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1 or above.

Successful completion of Business Administration Level 1 (or a related course) along with the above English and Maths requirements and satisfactory reference may also be acceptable.

The Business Certificate will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for a minimum of three days a week, plus independent study.

The Business Certificate is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1200.

You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, which include observation, written assessments and discussions with tutor. Two of the units are assessed by an external examination with the remainder being internally assessed at a pass, merit or distinction grade.

Successful completion of the Business Certificate to a Merit or Distinction standard along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 3 course. It could also lead to employment or an Apprenticeship in a business, administration or retail role.

Additional costs include purchasing an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper.
