The level 1 Award in Construction Skills (Plastering) course is designed for anyone who would like to learn some basic construction skills. The course focuses on developing the basic skills and knowledge, via 3 different skill pathways, which will prepare learners for progression into a specialist trade or to boost their own practical skills.

What will I do?

During Construction Skills (Plastering) you will study the following 3 units:

  • Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction
  • Removing and Refitting Water Filled Radiators
  • Preparing Background Surfaces and Applying Finishing Coats

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

You will attend college every Tuesday evening between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.

Construction Skills (Plastering) may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £22,308 (annual gross salary) a year

At the end of each practical element there is an assessment to complete which is graded against set tolerances. There will be supplementary questions asked within the assessment timeframe to confirm underpinning knowledge of the subject.

The Health & Safety unit is assessed via the completion and marking of a knowledge workbook.
