Add to ShortlistThe Level 2 Nail Technology VTCT Certificate is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in how to provide and maintain nail enhancements, manicure treatments and nail art.
During this course, you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in the beauty related sectors. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learnt throughout this qualification.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in nail technology to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.
The Beauty department has three fully equipped salons together with a reception area for all practical skills. Theory sessions will be taught either in the resource area or in various classrooms.
What will I do?
The Level 2 Nail Technology VTCT Certificate consists of units covering:
- Health and safety
- Client care and communication
- Providing manicure treatments
- Providing nail art
- Providing and maintaining nail enhancement
During practice sessions you will be required to work on each other before progressing to work on clients.
The course of study will include theoretical and practical sessions through individual and group work.
You will be required to gain practical experience by performing treatments on clients in the realistic working environment of the salon and complete practical assessments. The average group size is 16 students.
During this course, students can choose to complete the following additional qualifications that can be included as part of this course:
- Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments Award Level 2
- Preparing to Run a Hair and Beauty Business Award Level 2
- Preventing Contact Dermatitis Award Level 2
- Skin Cancer Awareness for Non-Healthcare Professionals Award Level 2
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
Entry Qualifications
The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Nail Technology VTCT Certificate are completion of a Level 2 standard of education and/or have appropriate and relevant work experience.
You will be required to sit a basic skills test to assess your suitability for the course.
Attendance
The Nail Technology VTCT Certificate will take you one year to complete, starting in September 2024.
Fees
Nail Technology VTCT Certificate Level 2 will cost £547.

How Will I Be Assessed
The Nail Technology VTCT Certificate is based on an assessment structure, therefore you will be continually assessed throughout the course. Assessments will cover practical applications, written assignments, online exams, oral questioning and a portfolio of evidence.
Where Could It Lead?
Successful completion will enable you to seek employment directly in the nail industry in a nail salon or work on a freelance/mobile basis within this field.

Approximate additional costs, for items which must be purchased at the start of the course include -
A Beauty Kit including Manicure/Pedicure/Nail Art and Nail Technology - Costs to be advised at your Taster Day/Enrolment.
