Our Level 3 (Advanced) Beauty Therapy - Massage Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of advanced Massage techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as an advanced beauty therapist specialising in massage. Throughout your apprenticeship you will monitor procedures to safely control work operations, contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities, provide body massage treatments, provide Indian head massage, carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils and provide stone therapy treatments. You will be assessed on your occupational competence.

What will I do?

The mandatory units for the Beauty Therapy - Massage Apprenticeship are:

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Provide stone therapy treatments
  • Plus a minimum of 2 optional units, to be confirmed at enrolment/induction

Your Apprenticeship framework is also made up of the following elements:

Maths - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.

English - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.

ICT -Level 2 is a requirement of these Apprenticeships unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.

ERR - Employee Rights and Responsibilities, which includes health and safety, equality and diversity as well as employment legislation.

PLTS - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, which includes team working, creative thinking and reflective learning.

Vocational Element (Knowledge) - most Apprenticeship frameworks include off-the-job study for a technical certificate, which is usually done at College.

Vocational Element (Competence) - all Apprenticeships include on-the-job training and assessment leading to a competence based vocational qualification.

On some frameworks, the knowledge and competence elements are combined into one qualification.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Beauty Therapy - Massage Apprenticeship are a previous Beauty Therapy Level 2 qualification (or equivalent). This should include English and Maths at Grade 3 (Old GSE Grade D) or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths.

The Level 3 Beauty Therapy - Massage Apprenticeship will take you 12 – 18 months to complete. You will study at College for one day a week, and four days with your employer.

As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.90 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.

In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:

Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.35 per hour.

18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £6.15 per hour.

21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.70 per hour.

25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £8.21 per hour.

Those who achieve this qualification are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). As a massage therapist, your could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:

  • Commercial Salons
  • Destination/Day Spas
  • Massage Clinics
  • Independent/Self-Employed/Mobile/Home-Based Settings
  • Cruise Liners
  • Airlines or Hotel Chains
  • Care Homes

Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4 in one or more of the following areas:

  • Salon Management
  • Holistic Therapies
  • Sports Massage

Approximate additional costs, for items which must be purchased at the start of the course include -
Uniform - £46 approx.
Course Text Books £30 approx.
