The Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma enables you to obtain an internationally recognised qualification in Beauty Therapy, which will allow you to seek employment as a mobile therapist or junior therapist within a commercial salon environment or progress on to Level 3 and obtain advanced skills.

The Beauty Department at Boston College Spalding work in partnership with a prestigious skin care company, Dermalogica, to deliver unique skin care training in fully equipped training salons, which are open as commercial salons to the general public.

Commercial salons are run several times a week and will include several evening salon sessions to cater for all. There is also the opportunity throughout the year to work in a varied environment in the community.

What will I do?

The Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma consists of the following topics:

  • Health and safety
  • Promoting services or products
  • Working effectively
  • Facial skin care
  • Enhance eyebrows and lashes
  • Waxing
  • Manicure
  • Pedicure
  • Make-up services

You will also study nail technology and nail art, alongside either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

You will have access to information on study skills and the opportunity to attend support study groups. Average group size is 12 to 18 students.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma are four GCSEs grades 3 or above (Old GCSE grade D or above) including English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths. Beauty Therapy Level 1 would also be an advantage, but not necessary.

Successful completion of an interview process should be achieved which includes attending a taster session to assess your enthusiasm, ability to talk to people, personal presentation and practical dexterity skills.

You will also need a thorough reference from a previous employer or teacher.

A full interview will be carried out if you are wishing to progress from Level 1 to Level 2 in which attendance (minimum 90%), acceptable behaviour/attitude, ability to progress, ability to meet deadlines and satisfactory reports from all tutors will be taken into consideration.

The Beauty Therapy Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for a minimum of four days a week.

You will need a minimum of 92% attendance throughout the year, in order for you to successfully complete your qualification.

The Beauty Therapy Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

The Beauty Therapy Diploma will include theoretical and practical sessions, some individual and group assignment work as well as oral questioning, online exams and the production of a portfolio of evidence.

Successful completion may enable you to work in a commercial salon or on a mobile/freelance basis. Most beauty businesses prefer you to have completed Level 3.

Successful completion of Level 2 will enable you to apply to progress onto Level 3.

A Beauty Kit - Costs to be advised at your Taster Day/Enrolment.
Uniform - £46 approx.
Course Text Books £44.00 approx.
Optional additional courses are available that vary in price from £5.00 to £30.00.
