If your passion is for Art and Design, then this course is for you!

You will learn and be assessed by completing practical assignments. This will allow you to develop your practical skills in many areas of art and design including fine art, painting, sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, print, plaster, photography, 3D design, graphic design and 4D time-based media.

Your lecturers all have a working knowledge of the art and design industry and are all still active in the business outside of the college, resulting in accurate , up to date knowledge being shared throughout the course.

What will I do?

You will study a variety of units covering the different art practices such as fine art, painting, sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, print, plaster, photography, 3D design, graphic design and 4D time-based media.

You will learn about how other artists made their work, how to research in order to generate ideas and how to analyse artwork. You will develop your visual awareness and drawing ability.

As an Art and Design student, you will have access to all of our art, design and media facilities, which include two art studios, ceramics and pottery studio, (including kiln), photography studio and darkroom, two iMac editing suites, and a television studio. You will also be using industry standard software.

Work experience will be sourced with local employers to give you real world experiences that relate to the creative sector. You will be supported in identifying organisations for your placements, or you can generate these from your own contacts.

You will regularly visit museums and galleries in London and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as well as getting to meet numerous guest speakers including local artists, businesses and creative practitioners.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Art and Design National Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C and above) or equivalent or a Level 2 qualification to a Merit standard and a portfolio of work will be required when you are invited in for a review.
