The Level 2 Animal Care Diploma is aimed at anyone who is interested in animal care and husbandry.
You will complete both practical and theory based units such as Animal Biology, Behaviour, Handling and Health and Welfare.
During your time on the Level 2 Animal Care Diploma you will undertake work related experience in the land-based industries, maintain animal accommodation, undertake practical animal feeding, maintaining animal health, look at animal biology, behaviour and handling.
You will also be expected to carry out 150 hours of work experience during your time on the course. This work experience will take place internally within the Animal Studies Unit as well as external placement.
Educational trips are planned throughout the year, alongside guest speakers.
If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.
Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.
The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Animal Care Diploma are four GCSE grades at 3 or above (old GCSE grade D or above) including a minimum of Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English.
You can also progress on to this course from the Animal Care Diploma Level 1.
If you are unsure about meeting the entry requirements an alternative course would be the Animal Care Diploma Level 1.
You will need to have some meaningful industry related experience such as two days working at your local kennels.
The Animal Care Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

This course is 40% practical and 60% theory.
You will be assessed by group work, course work and presentations.
There are a number of educational visits arranged which you are encouraged to attend at a minimal cost, usually around £20.
