This Level 1 Animal Care Diploma is aimed at anyone who is interested in Animal Care. You will complete both practical and theory based units such as animal handling, accommodation, and feeding and watering.
Upon completion of the course, the qualification you will achieve is a Diploma in Land-Based Studies Level 1.
During your time on the Level 1 Animal Care Diploma you will undertake theory and practical units including:
The practical units will be run in the on-site animal care unit at the College. You will also undertake 60 hours of internal work experience on the Animal Studies Unit.
Educational trips are planned throughout the year, alongside guest speakers.
If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.
Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.
Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grades 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, to include English or maths or ESOL Entry L3 qualification.
If you are unable to meet these entry requirements enrolment onto our Pathways to Progress provision will prepare you for progression into the curriculum area of your choice, either in-year (depending on progress made in the first six weeks) or the following September. We also offer full time ESOL courses which give you opportunity to develop your language skills further prior to progression into the curriculum area of your choice the following September.
The Animal Care Diploma will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for three-four days a week, 9.00am-4.30pm.
You will also be expected to complete 15-30 hours of internal/external work experience plus independent study.
The Animal Care Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.
