The Level 2 (Intermediate) Accounting Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of intermediate accounting techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.

During the Level 2 (Intermediate) Accounting Apprenticeship you will be working in a wide range of job roles such as accounts assistant, accounts clerk, cashier, purchase ledger clerk or sales ledger clerk.

What will I do?

The Apprenticeship framework consists of several elements, which have been identified by employers as an appropriate set of skills to operate in their chosen job role.

These elements are:

Maths - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.

English - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.

ICT -Level 2 is a requirement of these Apprenticeships unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.

ERR - Employee Rights and Responsibilities, which includes health and safety, equality and diversity as well as employment legislation.

PLTS - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, which includes team working, creative thinking and reflective learning.

Vocational Element (Knowledge) - most Apprenticeship frameworks include off-the-job study for a technical certificate, which is usually done at College.

Vocational Element (Competence) - all Apprenticeships include on-the-job training and assessment leading to a competence based vocational qualification.

On some frameworks, the knowledge and competence elements are combined into one qualification.

As a Boston College student, you will have access to library facilities and IT equipment. A variety of food and drinks from the College coffee shop, bistro and canteen. The College also provides free parking and learners during term time and recreational activities.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Accounting Apprenticeship are five GCSEs at grades C or above (New GCSE grade 4 or above), including English and Maths ideally at grade B or above (New GCSE grade 6 or above) or equivalent.

You may also enter this course with a Merit at First Diploma Level in a related subject along with a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English certificate.

You will also need to be in a relevant job role.

The Accounting Apprenticeship will take you one year to complete. You will study at College for one evening a week, and the rest of the time with your employer.

You will also be expected to undertake private study.

You can start this course at various points throughout the year.

As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.70 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.

In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:

Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.20 per hour.

18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £5.90 per hour.

21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.38 per hour.

25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £7.83 per hour.

The Accounting Apprenticeship is assessed by computer based examinations. You will be expected to undertake considerable private study.

Apprenticeship students are also allocated an assessor who will assess your progress as you complete your course and carry out monthly reviews.

Upon completion of the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship framework, you may progress onto a Level 3 qualification. Those completing the Apprenticeships in Accounting will have enhanced career and employment opportunities.
